• mice exhibit reduced 2-arachidonoylglycerol levels in the cortex, cerebellum, hypothalamus and hippocampus compared with wild-type mice
• mice exhibit reduced anandamide levels in the hippocampus compared with wild-type mice
• pyramidal cells exhibit reduced excitability and fire action potentials at lower frequency than wild-type cells
• cells exhibit higher voltage threshold for action potential firing for input current up to 400 pA and stronger spike frequency adaptation compared with wild-type cells
• pyramidal cells stimulated with 20 Hz fail to suppress the inhibitory postsynaptic potentiation independently of stimulus duration compared with wild-type cells
• mice lack depolarization-induced suppression of inhibition (DSI) unlike wild-type mice
• however, GABA synaptic transmission is normal
