mortality/aging
• young females (6 weeks of age) fail to deliver pups and die about 1 week after their expected due date

reproductive system

• increased collagen deposition is not detected in the ovaries
• at 3-15 months of age, the reproductive tract is shorter and thicker compared to controls
• accumulation of extracellular matrix in the reproductive tract
• progressive collagen fibrosis in sexually mature females resulting in a thickened, collagen dense, acellular stroma and the disappearance of normal uterine morphology
• blood and lymphatic vessels are dilated
• at 6.5 weeks of age loosening of the circular and the outer longitudinal layers of myometrial cells is seen resulting in increased intercellular space between bundles of muscle cells
• loosening progresses with age and by 3 months of age the circular layer consists of a poorly defined layer of scattered cells and the space between the circular and longitudinal layers is distended
• the circular and the outer longitudinal layers of myometrial cells are disorganized in aged nulliparous mice
• the longitudinal layer is almost completely ablated
• increased collagen content at 15 months of age
• blood and lymphatic vessels are dilated
• at 2 to 6 months of age, about half of pregnant females miscarry litters
• young females fail to deliver pups regardless of pup genotype
• increase in cell death in luminal and glandular epithelial cells in uterine tissue aged 6 months and beyond
• far greater infiltration of inflammatory cells compared to wild-type controls
• females at 7 months of age or above are unable to get pregnant
