• temporal and ventrotemporal retinal axons are misprojected along the mediolateral superior colliculus axis to inappropriate lateral positions and slight anteroposterior malpositioning
• retinal axons exhibit misdirected interstitial branching during development
• retinal ganglion cell axons exhibit targeting errors, mostly as multiple ectopic terminationzones, along the mediolateral axis of the contralateral superior colliculus
