liver/biliary system
• inflammatory infiltrates, comprised of numerous clusters of lymphocytes and Kupffer cells, seen accompanying partial resolution of steatosis
• at 15 months of age livers contain distinct nodular lesions with slightly different color from the surrounding hepatic parenchyma
• nodules, consisting of eosinophilic and/or basophilic hepatocytes with focal or diffuse dysplastic changes and increased cell density, almost completely replace the liver parenchyma
• at 10 weeks and 15 months of age
• numerous lipid vacuoles of varying sizes are seen within the cytoplasm of zones 2 and 3 hepatocytes
• steatotic hepatocytes either lack or show diminished numbers of peroxisomes while hepatocytes immediately adjacent to fatty areas have higher amounts of peroxisomes
• show microvesicular steatosis involving most of the hepatic lobule with sparing of periportal hepatocytes at 8 weeks of age
• striking zonal pattern of steatosis persists at 3 and 4 months of age
• at 6 months of age, livers display areas of steatosis along with areas with complete resolution of the steatosis
• numerous lipid vacuoles of varying sizes are seen within the cytoplasm of zones 2 and 3 hepatocytes
• occur in multiple areas intermingled with dysplastic foci at around 1 year of age
