homeostasis/metabolism
N
• at 2 months of age, normally-fed male homozygotes display normal oxygen consumption and energy expenditure relative to wild-type controls
• at 2 months of age, normally-fed male homozygotes show normal blood glucose, triglyceride, insulin and glucagon levels
• at 2 months of age, both normally-fed and fasted male homozygotes show no significant differences in hepatic triglyceride or glycogen levels relative to similarly treated wild-type controls
• the fasting induced increase in circulating levels beta-hydroxybutyrate is greater than that in fasted wild-type controls
• however, hepatic expression of ketogenic genes is similarly increased in fasted wild-type and mutant mice relative to that in normally-fed controls
• a trend towards reduced levels of non-esterified fatty acids in blood when on a normal diet
• non-esterified fatty acids in blood become elevated relative to controls when fasted
• lipolytic activity in the white adipose tissue is increased in fasted mice
• however, lipase gene (Lipe and Pnpla2) expression in subcutaneous white adipose tissue is significantly increased to similar levels in fasted wild-type and mutant mice
• a trend towards reduced lipolytic activity in adipocytes
• at 2 months of age, normally-fed male homozygotes show a significant reduction in lipase gene (Lipe and Pnpla2) expression in subcutaneous white adipose tissue relative to wild-type controls

growth/size/body
• males display a trend towards being slightly heavier than controls at 8 weeks of age
• liver weight is slightly and significantly heavier than controls at 2 months of age

liver/biliary system
• liver weight is slightly and significantly heavier than controls at 2 months of age

adipose tissue
• white adipose tissue weight displays a trend towards a decrease with fasting, unlike controls
• display a trend towards increased subcutaneous fat weight
• display a trend towards increased epididymal fat weight
• adipocyte size is suggestive of a decrease with fasting
• mature adipocytes display a trend towards larger size in subcutaneous and epididymal fat

behavior/neurological
N
• at 2 months of age, male homozygotes show no differences in food intake or diurnal variation in food intake relative to wild-type controls
