• peripheral CD8 T cell numbers are reduced by about a third
• relative percentage of memory T cells is increased likely reflecting lymphopenia-driven population expansion
• CD4 regulatory T cell numbers are reduced in these mice
• the deletion of Vbeta8+ CD4SP thymocytes but not Vbeta8+ CD8SP thymocytes induced by the 'superantigen' staphylococcus enterotoxin B is impaired in these mice
