mortality/aging
• mice are healthy until 7 weeks of age when they rapidly become moribund and begin to develop general edema that is frequently accompanied by ascites
• the cause of this sudden death may be myocarditis
• all mice die by 72 days of age

immune system
• spleens of 6-10 week old mice are visibly larger and have a greater than 3-fold increase in the number of cells
• the frequency and absolute number of Foxp3+ CD4+ T cells are increased in the spleens and lymph nodes
• almost half of CD4+ T cells found in the spleen and lymph nodes also express Foxp3 compared to under 20% of CD4+ T cells in wild-type mice
• there are more than 5-fold greater numbers of Foxp3+ CD4+ T cells in the spleen and lymph nodes of these mice compared to controls
• the CD4+:CD8+ T cell ratio is greater in these mice than in controls
• mice have a several hundred fold increase in their sera levels of IgE
• mice have about a 3-fold increase in their sera levels of IgG
• regulatory T cells have diminished suppressive capabilities as measured by co-culturing with responder T cells activated by the presence of dendritic cells and anti_TCR antibody
• lymph nodes of 6-10 week old mice are visibly larger and have a greater than 5-fold increase in the number of cells
• there is an increased frequency of IFN-gamma producing Foxp3- CD4+ T cells in both spleen and lymph nodes
• there is an increased frequency of IL-2 producing Foxp3- CD4+ T cells in both spleen and lymph nodes
• there is an increased frequency of IL-4 producing Foxp3- CD4+ T cells in both spleen and lymph nodes
• antiparietal autoantibodies are readily detected in the sera
• mononuclear cells are densely infiltrated into the myocardium and appear to be destroying myocytes in affected individuals
• focal lymphocyte infiltrations occur in the salivary glands
• mice suffer from gastritis with various degrees of destruction of the gastric parietal cells and chief cells
• antiparietal autoantibodies are readily detected in the sera
• focal lymphocyte infiltrations occur in the lung

cardiovascular system
• hearts are visibly larger in moribund mice compared to wild-type controls
• mononuclear cells are densely infiltrated into the myocardium and appear to be destroying myocytes in affected individuals

digestive/alimentary system
• focal lymphocyte infiltrations occur in the salivary glands
• mice suffer from gastritis with various degrees of destruction of the gastric parietal cells and chief cells
• antiparietal autoantibodies are readily detected in the sera

endocrine/exocrine glands
• focal lymphocyte infiltrations occur in the salivary glands

respiratory system
• focal lymphocyte infiltrations occur in the lung

liver/biliary system
• congestion of the liver is evident in terminal cases

hematopoietic system
• spleens of 6-10 week old mice are visibly larger and have a greater than 3-fold increase in the number of cells

growth/size/body
• hearts are visibly larger in moribund mice compared to wild-type controls
• spleens of 6-10 week old mice are visibly larger and have a greater than 3-fold increase in the number of cells
