• isolated islet cells exposed to 7 mM glucose secrete significantly more insulin the wild-type islet cells
• this increased secretion lasts for at least 30 minutes after addition of glucose
• fasting mice have lower blood glucose levels compared to controls
• levels of insulin during fasting are almost double that of wild-type mice
• fasting mice that are given glucose have an accelerated return to baseline glucose levels

endocrine/exocrine glands
• beta cells have reduced potassium voltage currents
• at 50mV, the current amplitudes are only 17% that of controls
• action potential duration is increased 3-fold compared to controls during a 5 second duration 2 minutes after depolarization induced by glucose
• the action potential frequency is decreased by over 2-fold
• isolated islet cells exposed to 7 mM glucose secrete significantly more insulin the wild-type islet cells
• this increased secretion lasts for at least 30 minutes after addition of glucose
