reproductive system
• the number of eggs obtained from mutant females is about 50% that from control females lacking Tg(Zp3-cre)1Gwh and more mutant females failed to produce any eggs after superovulation
• the zona pellucida is thinner, less rigid, more loosely attached to the egg, lacks complex N glycans, and is stickier, however mutant eggs can still be successfully fertilized
• mutant females crossed to heterozygous or wild-type males have more abnormal or underdeveloped embryos compared to control females
• 41% of mutant females fail to produce any embryos within 5 days of their first mating compared to about 12% of control females
• average litter size for mutant females mated to wild-type males is only 3.8 pups compared to 7.1 pups for wild-type females
