mortality/aging
• by E10.5 no viable embryos are found

cardiovascular system
• the major arteries are abnormal
• endothelial cells accumulate at the apical portion of the intersomitic vessels and the dorsal vessel in this region is dilated
• arterial atrophy is seen by E9.5
• many arteries no longer develop as arteries but show markers of a venous fate
• the diameter of the dorsal aorta is reduced by E8.75
• by E9.5 the dorsal aorta is severely reduced or absent
• the vasculature in the head remains a simple plexus of disorganized and fused vessels
• branching morphogenesis is reduced
• in some embryos the dorsal aorta and anterior cardinal vein are fused at the level of the sinus venosus
• at E8.75 the anterior cardinal vein is reduced in caliber and has ectopic branches, at E9.0 the reduction in size is more severe, and by E9.5 a distinct anterior cardinal vein is absent
• at E8.75 the sinus venosus is smaller than normal and this reduction is more severe at E 9.5
• the atria are reduced is size
• the ventricles are reduced in size
• severe pericardial swelling is seen at E9.0

embryo
• severe growth retardation is seen by E9.5
• the major vitelline artery is severely reduced
• the vascular plexus is not remodeled into a more mature vascular network

muscle

growth/size/body
• severe growth retardation is seen by E9.5

homeostasis/metabolism
• severe pericardial swelling is seen at E9.0

cellular
• the vasculature in the head remains a simple plexus of disorganized and fused vessels
