• cultured hepatocytes exhibit impaired necrosis-associated internucleosomal DNA fragmentation (INDF) and lack chromatin condensation compared with wild-type cells
• DNA from liver, kidney, spleen and thymus incubated with saponin in the presence of magnesium and calcium to induce necrosis fail to form DNA ladders unlike DNA from wild-type cells
• following induced liver ischemia, DNA from the liver fails to form DNA ladders unlike DNA from wild-type mice
