• impaired generation of CD8SP mature thymocytes and establishment of a normal CD8 T-cell pool in secondary lymphoid organs
• however, the thymus does not undergo increased negative selection and an IL5-dependent bystander effect does not account for the generation of memory phenotype CD8 T cells
• altered TCR-V distribution in CD8+ T cells
• 2.1-fold reduction in number with an 8.1-fold decrease in naive cells in the spleen
• increased percent of memory-like cells in the spleen
• 9.3-fold in the thymus
• in the periphery
• CD8+ T cells are selected for clones that are self-reactive
