neoplasm
• tumoral angiogenesis occurs before the development of diffuse hepatocarcinoma, with proliferation, remodeling, and arterialization of hepatic sinusoids
• fused, enlarged sinusoids are present in adenomatous nodules at 16 weeks of age, and when hepatocarcinoma is seen, the architecture of the liver is disrupted with large vascular lakes replacing the sinusoids
• some transformed hepatocytes exhibit an endothelial cell phenotype, suggesting a partial vasculogenic mimicry
• the abnormal angiogenesis seen in hepatocarcinoma is associated with platelet aggregation within vascular endothelial cells derived form the portal tract and sinusoid lumen
• males exhibit hepatocyte hyperplasia/dysplasia at 4 weeks of age, show nodules corresponding to adenomas from the 12th week of age and diffuse hepatocarcinoma from the 20th week of age (J:84204)
• all mice develop hepatocellular carcinoma by 8 months of age (J:101541)

cardiovascular system

• the abnormal angiogenesis seen in hepatocarcinoma is associated with platelet aggregation within vascular endothelial cells derived form the portal tract and sinusoid lumen

hematopoietic system
• macrophages invade the hepatic tissue before development of tumoral angiogenesis

immune system
• macrophages invade the hepatic tissue before development of tumoral angiogenesis
