• cytotoxic T lymphocyte response to influenza is normal
• despite normal numbers of NK precursors, fewer immature NK cells are found in the bone marrow compared to in wild-type mice
• almost no mature NK cells are detected in the bone marrow cells unlike in wild-type mice
• however, NK cells from wild-type bone marrow transferred into irradiated mice develop normally and transfection of hematopoietic progenitor cells in the presence or absence of IL15 with a retrovirus over-expressing Nfil3 rescues NK differentiation while over-expression of Id2 partially restores NK cell differentiation
• in a competitive repopulation assay, bone marrow cells produce fewer NK cells compared to wild-type bone marrow cells
• hematopoietic progenitor cells cultured on OP9 cells with the addition of cytokines fail to produce NK cells unlike similarly treated wild-type cells
• NK cells are almost completely absent from the periphery unlike in wild-type mice
• fewer immature NK cells are found in the bone marrow compared to in wild-type mice
• almost no mature NK cells are detected in the bone marrow cells unlike in wild-type mice
