immune system
• only half the number of macrophages are recruited to the peritoneum in an induced peritonitis model as occurs in wild-type controls
• the number of neutrophils recruited to the peritoneum in an induced peritonitis model is almost double that controls
• in thioglycollate- or zymosan- induced peritonitis models, no Ccl2 chemokine is detected but 4-fold higher levels of Ccl7 are present in peritoneal fluid
• as expected, there is no Ccl2 (MCP-1) secretion by peritoneal macrophages activated in vitro
• unexpectedly, there is a 6-fold increase in Ccl7 (MCP-3) secretion and a 4-fold increase in Ccl12 (MCP-5) by these same activated macrophages

homeostasis/metabolism
