nervous system
• striatonigral medium spiny neurons exhibit reorganization of the dendritic tree without changes in the length of the dendritic segments
• striatopallidal medium spiny neurons exhibit increased dendritic arborization accompanied by a tendency to increase the number of dendritic segments without changes in their length
• striatopallidal medium spiny neurons tend to show an increase in cell capacitance, higher resting membrane potential, and overall decreased neuronal excitability
• however, striatonigral medium spiny neurons do not show changes in cell capacitance or in resting membrane potential and cell excitability remains unchanged
• treatment of striatopallidal medium spiny neurons with quinpirole, a D2 receptor agonist, does not modify cell excitability or membrane capacitance as it does in controls
• treatment of striatopallidal medium spiny neurons with quinpirole decreases resting membrane potential
