Thick interalveolar septae and alveolar hemorrhaging in E18.5 Man1a2tm1.1Ahe/Man1a2tm1.1Ahe lungs

mortality/aging
• neonates die within several hours of birth

respiratory system
• neonates exhibit alveolar hemorrhaging
• however, pulmonary capillary and blood vessel networks are normal
• lung development is delayed, with E18.5 and neonatal lungs at the canalicular stage of development instead of at the saccular stage, as in wild-type
• decrease in alveolar air space at E18.5
• small isolated atelectactic regions are occasionally seen in the lungs, however all lungs inflate sufficiently to briefly sustain life (4-10 hours)
• thickening of alveolar septae is seen at E18.5
• within several hours of birth, progressively display signs of respiratory distress

cardiovascular system
• neonates exhibit alveolar hemorrhaging
• however, pulmonary capillary and blood vessel networks are normal

homeostasis/metabolism
• within several hours of birth, display signs of cyanosis
