mortality/aging
• some mice die between P1 and P30

behavior/neurological
• in a tail suspension test, mice exhibit an increase in active defense behavior indicated by increased time spent struggling to escape and decreased immobilization compared with wild-type mice
• in response to aversive ultrasonic stimulus, mice exhibit a large increase in behavioral reactivity with less freezing compared with wild-type mice
• however, mice treated with pargyline exhibit normal flight responses in response to ultrasonic stimulus
• in a novelty-suppressed feeding test, mice exhibit faster initiation of feeding compared with wild-type mice
• in an elevated plus maze

homeostasis/metabolism
• decreased in the hippocampus but not the cortex or striatum
• in the brain (cortex, striatum and brain stem) and blood
• mice treated with pargyline exhibit lower 5-HT levels compared with wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal 5-HIAA brain levels and serotonin gut levels

nervous system
N
• 5-HT raphe neurons develop normally
