Hmga1tm1Brun mutation (0 available); any Hmga1 mutation (21 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
homeostasis/metabolism
• plasma insulin is also decreased after glucose challenge with a striking effect on acute first-phase insulin secretion
• plasma insulin levels but not glucose levels are significantly reduced
• glucose levels are increased 2.9 fold within 30 minutes after an intraperitoneal glucose injection compared to 2.2-fold in wild-type mice and are still elevated after 2 hours
• glucose intolerance is 40% impaired glucose tolerance and about 50% diabetes
• increased insulin sensitivity is seen in the skeletal muscle and fat
• insulin resistance is seen in the liver as seen by increased glucose production under hyperinsulinemic conditions

endocrine/exocrine glands
• islets are irregularly shaped
• islets are 50-80% smaller
• plasma insulin is also decreased after glucose challenge with a striking effect on acute first-phase insulin secretion
