mortality/aging
• incomplete but high penetrance of lethality

integument
• increased apoptosis in developing hair follicles of skin at P4 but no difference in the proportion of apoptotic cells restricted to upper suprabasal layers of the interfollicular epidermis
• 10-20% decrease in the number of proliferative keratinocytes in early hair follicles at P4, but no difference in the interfollicular epidermis
• significant decrease in the thickness of the skin hypodermis from P4 onwards, resulting in reduced skin thickness
• skin displays a reduced number of hair follicles at the advanced stages of morphogenesis and increased number of early hair germs and hair pegs, however total hair follicle number was normal
• at P4, the number of early hair germs and hair pegs, characterized by the presence of mesenchyme at their base, is increased
• follicular growth is significantly delayed by P4 and P7, even though the first hair coat is indistinguishable from wild-type

cellular
• increased apoptosis in developing hair follicles of skin at P4 but no difference in the proportion of apoptotic cells restricted to upper suprabasal layers of the interfollicular epidermis
• 10-20% decrease in the number of proliferative keratinocytes in early hair follicles at P4, but no difference in the interfollicular epidermis

homeostasis/metabolism
• delay in wound healing throughout the whole repair process, with final closure postponed by 2-3 days, however skin elasticity was not impaired
• number of keratinocytes per surface unit is slightly higher at the edges of the skin wound
• cultured keratinocytes at the edges of a scrape wound detached more readily and exhibited a slower migration rate than wildtype

integument
• isolated keratinoctyes are rounded and only adhered 4 days after seeding compared to controls that adhered and spread 24 hours after seeding
• slight but significant increase in keratinocyte proliferation rate, however hair follicle cycle was normal
• increased keratinocyte proliferative response to tetradecanoylphorbol acetate (TPA) stimulation on the dorsal epidermis and in response to hair plucking of the dorsal skin
• slight but significant increase in epidermal thickness, however no defect in epidermal differentiation

cellular
• isolated keratinoctyes are rounded and only adhered 4 days after seeding compared to controls that adhered and spread 24 hours after seeding
• slight but significant increase in keratinocyte proliferation rate, however hair follicle cycle was normal
• increased keratinocyte proliferative response to tetradecanoylphorbol acetate (TPA) stimulation on the dorsal epidermis and in response to hair plucking of the dorsal skin
