• those pups that are born alive die within 24 hours

cellular
• apoptosis is repressed in several tissues including the liver and thymus but not in the intestine
• fewer F4/80+ macrophages are found in the thymus and liver compared to wild-type mice
• more unphagocytosed apoptotic cells are found in the liver at E13.5 and in the thymus at E16.5 despite an overall decrease in the number of apoptotic cells

growth/size/body
• at E15.5 mutant embryos are smaller than their heterozygous littermates

hematopoietic system
• fewer F4/80+ macrophages are found in the thymus and liver compared to wild-type mice
• more unphagocytosed apoptotic cells are found in the liver at E13.5 and in the thymus at E16.5 despite an overall decrease in the number of apoptotic cells
• both the cortex and medulla are poorly developed
• at E18.5 the total number of thymocytes is decreased to less than 20% of wild-type
