nervous system
• heterosynaptic kainite receptor-mediated facilitation resulting from the spillover of glutamate from CA3 collateral synapses is absent
• facilitation of mossy-fiber EPSCs by low kainate concentrations is absent
• the half-decay of the postsynaptic kainate-mediated EPSC is shorter

nervous system
• kainic acid fails to induce increases in excitatory postsynaptic current (EPSC) amplitudes unlike in similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, mice respond normally to high concentrations of kainic acid and kainate receptor-mediated inhibition of slow afterhyperpolarization current is normal
• following application with GYKI 53655, no cells exhibit GYKI-resistant EPSC unlike in similarly treated wild-type mice
• following application with GYKI 53655 and short trains of high-frequency stimulation, no GYKI-resistant EPSC is detected unlike in similarly treated wild-type mice
• at the shortest interstimulus interval, paired-pulse facilitation is impaired compared to in similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, frequency facilitation is intact
