immune system
• polymorphonuclear leucocytes from homozygotes show increased spontaneous migratory behavior in vivo
• in vitro, leukocytes from mutant mice display altered adhesion molecule expression
• mutant peritoneal lavage macrophages exhibit a defect in phagocytosis
• homozygotes display an enhanced sensitivity to carrageenin-induced inflammation (paw edema)
• dexamethasone fails to inhibit the first phase of carrageenin-induced paw edema; in contrast, there is no change in glucocorticoid sensitivity of the second phase
• in zymosan-induced peritonitis, leukocyte emigration and IL-1beta generation is enhanced in homozygotes of both sexes compared to wild-type
