The goal of the authors was to determine if reciprocal QTL for acute ethanol withdrawal and consumption could be found in a heterogeneous (HS) stock of mice. HS4 was derived by the crossing of C57BL/6, BALB/cJ, and LP/J mice. Three or four mice from 48HS4 families were used from generation 19 (G19). These HS4 mice were used in a genome wide scan for QTL utilizing SNPs. Seven QTL for withdrawal and consumption were found in chromosomes 1( 2 were found), 3, 6, 11, 16, and 17. In parentheses following the locus is the mapped SNP and the physical location of the QTL in Mbp.
