C57BL/6J mice display higher VCAM-1 levels then resistant strain C3H/HeJ and BALB/c. Soluble P-selectin levels are also higher in B6.apoE-/- then in BALB/c apoE-/- A total of 234 female animals from a (B6.129P2-Apoetm1Unc/J x C3.129P2(B6)-Apoetm1Unc)F2 intercross facilitated the QTL mapping of these levels in a genome wide scan . The cross is detailed in J:106521 Su Z, Genetics 2006 Mar;172(3):1799-807. Pvacm1l mapped to mouse Chromosome 9 with a peak LOD of 3.9 at D9Mit18. Genetic control of plasma VCAM-1 levels also showed suggestive loci on chromosomes 5, 13 and 15. Ppsl showed a peak at D16Mit165 with a LOD of 3.4. For soluble P-selectin levels suggestive loci were indicated in mouse Chromosomes 10 and 13. A peak cM of 71 cM and 8.5 cM was suggested for Pvacm1l and Ppsl respectively.
