Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:87794

More than 1000 animals from an (M16i x L6)F2 intercross were typed for 63 polymorphic markers over 19 autosomes to identify QTLs associated with growth traits. Body weight was measured at 21, 42, and 70 days of age. Tail length was measured at 70 days asan indicator of skeletal growth. Parental strain M16i exhibits high weight gain between 21 and 42 days of age while parental strain L6 exhibits low weight gain. LOD=3.3 was used as the cutoff for statistically significant linkage.

On mouse Chromosome 7, an interval between D7Mit55 and D7Mit91 contains QTLs Tailq5 (LOD=4.6), W6q17 (LOD=3.4), W10q18 (LOD=4.1), and W3q10 (LOD=5.3). Tailq5 peaks at 15 cM. M16i-derived alleles at Tailq5 confer increased tail length with dominant or additive inheritance. This locus explains 1.7% of the variance. W6q17 peaks at 18.2 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W6q17 confer increased body weight at 6 weeks of age with dominant or additive inheritance. This locus explains 1.7% of the variance. W10q18 peaks at 18.2 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W10q18 confer increased body weight at 10 weeks of age with additive inheritance. This locus explains 1.9% of the variance. The 1 LOD confidence interval of W3q10 spans 18.2 cM - 28.1 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W3q10 confer increased body weight at 3 weeks of age with dominant inheritance. This locus explains 1.8% of the variance.

W3q8 maps to an interval on mouse Chromosome 7 between D7Mit91 and D12Mit11. (*Note: The marker D12Mit11 mapped to mouse Chromosome 7 in this study.) The 1 LOD confidence interval of W3q8 spans 28.1 cM - 42.3 cM and peaks at 34.2 cM (LOD=5.5). M16i-derived alleles confer increased body weight at 3 weeks of age with dominant inheritance. This locus explains 1.8% of the variance.
