Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:94605

Linkage analysis was performed on 16 LGXSM (LG=LG/J; SM=SM/J) recombinant inbred (RI) lines to identify QTLs associated with obesity and diabetes traits. Parental strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size compared to parental strain SM/J and these two strains also differ in obesity and diabetes related traits in response to dietary fat. 506 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 2 to 3 cM were used in the genome scan. 39 loci were mapped but only those reaching genomewide significance are reportedhere.

On mouse Chromosome 7, an interval between D7Mit238 (53 cM) and D7Nds4 (72.4 cM) shows linkage to tail length and adult growth from 10-20 weeks of age. This locus is named Adbg1 (adult body growth 1). LG/J-derived alleles confer increased body growth and tail length at this locus. Adbg1 also shows suggestive linkage to mesenteric fat pad weight on a high fat diet.
