Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:69379

Genome scan employing 66 polymorphic markers was performed on 130 male animals from a (C57BL/6By x NZB/BlNJ)F2 intercross population to identify QTLs associated with testis weight and seminal vesicles weight. Parental strain NZB/BlNJ displays heavier reproductive organ weight compared to parental strain C57BL/6By.

Significant linkage to testis weight mapped to 37.8 cM on Chromosome X (Tesw1) near DXMit25 (LOD=9.11) and to 57 cM on mouse Chromosome 10 (Tesw2) near D10Mit14 (LOD=5.81). Homozygosity for NZB/BlNJ-derived alleles confer increased testis weight at both Tesw1 and Tesw2. Tesw1 explains 20.7% of the total variance and Tesw2 explains 11.9% of the total variance. A possible candidate gene for Tesw1 is the androgen receptor (Ar) at 36 cM on chromosome X.

Suggestive linkage to testis weight mapped to 13.4 cM (D13Mit13, LOD=3.10) on mouse Chromosome 13 and to 20 cM (D18Mit17, LOD=2.80) on mouse Chromosome 18. The chromosome 13 locus maps near a previously identified testis weight QTL named Twq1 at 10 cM.

Significant linkage to testis weight and seminal vesicle weight (Tsvw1) mapped to 47.5 cM on mouse Chromosome 4 near D4Mit205a (LOD=5.96 for testis weight, LOD=9.21 for seminal vesicles weight). Homozygosity for NZB/BlNJ-derived alleles confer increased testis and seminal vesicles weight at Tsvw1. A possible candidate gene for Tsvw1 is the leptin receptor, Lepr (46.7 cM).
