Notes
This allele is the result of a major chromosomal alteration: An interstitial segment of Chromosome 17 (17B-17C or 17A2-17B) has been translocated into the distal end of Chromosome 2, adjacent and distal to an inverted segment of Chromosome 2 (2E4-2H1). The distal break in Chromosome 2 disrupted the A (or Aw) locus producing a mutation to aj. The phenotype of homozygotes, jet black, is equivalent to the phenotype of mice homozygous for extreme nonagouti, ae.
