Targeted Allele Detail
Symbol: Gfaptm1Pkny
Name: glial fibrillary acidic protein; targeted mutation 1, Milos Pekny
MGI ID: MGI:2183221
Synonyms: GFAP-
Gene: Gfap  Location: Chr11:102887336-102897200 bp, - strand  Genetic Position: Chr11, 66.48 cM, cytoband D
Germline Transmission:  Earliest citation of germline transmission: J:25093
Parent Cell Line:  E14 (ES Cell)
Strain of Origin:  129P2/OlaHsd
Allele Type:    Targeted (Null/knockout)
Mutations:    Insertion, Intragenic deletion
Mutation detailsThe insertion of a neomycin selection cassette deleted 2.0kb of the upstream regulatory region as well as sequence in exon 1 encoding the first 71 amino acids. Northern blot analysis of total brain RNA showed a lack of transcript produced from this allele. Encoded protein was undetected in homozygous mutant mice via immunohistochemical staining of astrocytes. (J:25093, J:96523)
