Highly prolific outbred (QSo) and inbred (IQ5) strains derived from the Quackenbush Swiss mouse line and the less prolific C57BL/6J inbred line were studied to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for prolificacy growth. Analysis of F2 progeny suggested the presence of a QTL (Fecq1) associated with litter size on mouse Chromosome 2, 5 cM distal of D2Mit7 (LOD = 4.71).
