MGI ID: MGI:1857730
Synonyms: Vcl0, vinculin-
Gene: Vcl  Location: Chr14:20929433-21033673 bp, + strand  Genetic Position: Chr14, 11.53 cM
Germline Transmission:  Earliest citation of germline transmission: J:45781
Parent Cell Line:  R1 (ES Cell)
Strain of Origin:  (129X1/SvJ x 129S1/Sv)F1-Kitl+
Allele Type:    Targeted (Null/knockout)
Mutations:    Insertion, Intragenic deletion
Mutation detailsExon E3 was replaced by a neomycin cassette. Homozygous mutant embryos do not express vinculin protein, as assesed by Western blotting. The strategy employed to inactivate the vinculin gene leads to impaired production of vinculin as well as metavinculin. Heterozygotes exhibit a 58% reduction of vinculin and a 63% reduction of its muscle splice variant (metavinculin) protein levels versus wild-type littermates. (J:45781, J:92398)
