Notes
This mutation affecting morphogenesis appeared in a male mouse obtained from a blastomere-enucleated blastomere fusion experiment. Males hemizygous and females homozygous for the allele exhibit malformations of the tail, polydactyly in the hind feet, and, in 60% of cases, cleft palate. Other skeletal defects may also occur. More than 80% of expected hemizygous males, and more than 90% of expected homozygous females, die during gestation or soon after birth. The penetrance of the this mutation is also incomplete. Survivors are fertile. The sex-linked mode of inheritance and crosses involving Eda and Plp placed the ptd locus on the X chromosome (J:10812).
