Homozygotes for null mutations (and heterozygotes with a paternally inherited mutant allele) exhibit reduced postnatal growth, low insulin and IGF I levels, glucose intolerance, beta-cell hypoplasia, impaired long-term synaptic plasticity, and impaired hippocampal-dependent learning.
