Mice homozygous for a conditional allele activated in cardiac myocytes exhibit decreased response to cardiac ischemic/reperfusion injury. A strain-specific splicing allele (knockout) is protective against specific induced cardiopathies but has a negative effect on some heart parameters and on glucose metabolism.
