Homozygous null mice initiate implantation but fail to complete decidualization and display early embryonic lethality. A subset of heterozygotes show forebrain overgrowth, delayed neural tube closure, exencephaly, failed optic fissure closure, malformed lenses, and retinal/optic nerve colobomas.
