Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit complete neonatal lethality associated with delayed lung maturation, cyanosis, respiratory distress, atelectasis and decreased surfactant secretion, and show defects in dental epithelial cell differentiation and delayed growth of the lower incisors.
