Heterozygotes exhibit waviness of the hair-coat and vibrissae; some develop dry, scaly skin, fail to grow hair, and die prior to weaning. In homozygous mutants, embryonic ectoderm becomes pycnotic and degenerates, resulting in embryonic death.
