The transgene inserted into intron 7 and separates exons 7 and 8, which code for the two chondroitin sulfate binding domains. RT-PCR analysis detected truncated mRNA transcripts in homozygous embryos. None of the alternative splice forms of the gene are detected in hearts from homozygous mice.
